Thoughts about the work
“If the institutional wall is what separates the professional from the amateur then it makes sense that you would need an academic education to take part as a Professional. Applying to art school was my attempt to escape my own amateur status as a creator, and you need at least a little bit of delusion of grandeur to apply to art school in the first place and once there you will have to tackle imposter syndrome as a symptom of the internal renovation that you undergo within the walls of the institution.
The reliefs represent different layers of my creative process all blended together, floating in the empty, disrupting the laws of reason. There are no hierarchies, no figure more important than the other. They cross over, cover and disappear behind each other. The flat engravings are carved into the reliefs and the ruff three-dimensional ones disappear behind the engraved figure frames, while simultaneously climbing onto another relief on the other side.
The lack of hierarchies between the expressions was key in this sculpture to fight the prejudice of the simplicity of some figures, as well as the idealistic nature in others.”
